Flowers that bloom out of season

A lifetime ago—30 years—when my father passed, my mother was looking for a message that he was still ‘alive’ only in another realm. The two of them were very interested in the other-worldly and had made a pact that who ever went first would come back to give a sign. My mother was sitting at her kitchen table, talking to him in her head while looking at a hibiscus plant, which does not bloom in the winter and this particular plant hadn’t bloomed since the summer some six months prior. She asked that he make the flower bloom…in a few days the flower began to bloom and did so for several months much to the delight of anyone stopping by–and particularly my mother was comforted by the flowering potplant.

Two years ago my husband’s uncle passed, and hubby flew to Australia. The day after I had taken him to the airport, I was looking at the hanging baskets at my backdoor thinking that I need go to the nursery and get new plants, as the ones I had planted in the Spring had not made it all the way to mid-August. The next morning I came out and saw buds and blooms; decided that it had to be a message from uncle Bert… I felt comforted.

Two weeks ago, I returned from my long visit to my native Finland. My little garden and those hanging baskets looked a mess. So I spent a few hours weeding and cleaning things up. Once again thought I should pick up some mums for the autumn to put in those baskets. Before I could do so, the beautiful orange flowers I had planted in the spring were back in bloom despite the chilly night time temperatures. I think my hubby is bringing me a message…I am still here and I too can send flowers as messages.
